Sundarkand is the chapter of Valmiki Ramayana describing Hanuman's miraculous power, devotion and wisdom. Learn the correct recitation method and its benefits.

Introduction to Sundarkand

Sundarkand is the fifth of the seven Kandas of Valmiki Ramayana. "Sundar" is the name of the region in Lanka where Hanuman went searching for Mata Sita. This Kanda is an epic portrayal of Hanuman's strength, intelligence, devotion and fearlessness.

Sundarkand contains 68 sargas (chapters) and approximately 2,900 shlokas. It is considered the very heart of the Ramayana.

Benefits of Sundarkand Path

Brings happiness, peace and positive energy to the home. Destroys negative eye (buri nazar), negative forces and fears. Protects children and ensures their bright future. Grants relief from enemies and success in legal disputes.

Wherever Hanuman goes, Lord Rama dwells. Therefore, reciting Sundarkand invites Rama's presence into the home.

How to Perform the Path

Tuesday or Saturday is most auspicious. Bathe in the morning and wear red or yellow clothing. Light a lamp before Hanuman's image and offer jasmine oil.

Before beginning, remember Lord Ganesha and Lord Rama. Do not get up midway through the recitation. After completion, read the Hanuman Chalisa and offer boondi or laddoo as prasad.
